tradition 101 – wedding cake

ever wonder why we have a cake (mock up or real) to cut in our wedding?

the history of the wedding cake goes back as far as the roman empire and through the years, the cake has become the focus of various customs and traditions. some of the customs survived, some have not.

today, wedding cakes take centre stage in the cake cutting ceremony, symbolically the first task that bride and groom perform jointly as husband and wife. the distribution of cakes to guests is also a tradition that dates back to the roman empire and continues today, representing the sharing of happiness and prosperity too all guests.

for your girls – fortune flowers

for a twist in traditional bouquet tossing, why not let all the girls be the next bride?  you can create a ‘breakaway bouquet toss’ comprising of several mini bouquets loosely tied together. consider gathering a variety of flowers such as roses, calla lilies, hydrangeas in to one large bouquet, and wrapped the stems of each bunch individually with a bow.  once tossed, the bouquet dispersed into multiple mini-bouquets, spreading your joy far and wide to all your girls.  making it more fun, you can also add various blessings or fortune notes attached to the bouquets.
